Yeng's Ang Awitin
I'll set the record straight. I don't like Yeng. There are couple of things to hate about her. (OA sa camera, pa-cute, masyadong pa-baby). Pero, she composes good songs. Hawak-Kamay is sooo good.
But, this song? This Ang Awitin? This song, Ang Awitin? (Yeah, it's redundant.) Ok, it's good. It got 53% of the votes. But, if you're gonna compare it with the other songs, it's less superior. Panky should've won. It's tastefully done. So, as Chad's. Mas maganda pa nga iyong kay Rosita.
Pero, siyempre, just like what I said before, that's how election in the Philippines goes. Popularity is the word! Guys, be objective enough when voting.
But, don't get me wrong. Yeng is a true musician. She is the epitome of the millions of hopefuls out there. Her popularity or "masa appeal" is a plus.
Kaya nga alam na natin kung sinong mananalo. I'll bet 100 pesos.

hi!!!! i also have the same perception on yeng's song "ang awitin" i honestly think that panky's song (just forgot the title) has a better substance than hers.
on the previous weeks, i think 2 saturdays ago, yeng also won the christmas song writing contest.... sori talaga but i think eman's song "meri xmas break na tayo" relayed much meaning than hers.... it had a different twist on its lyrics while yeng just described the typical "pasko sa pinas"....
another fact, u would'nt hear teenagers today sing yeng's xmas song... unless it will be sensationalized by the station. but i really do think eman's conposition had a greater impact...
nonetheless, i have nothing against yeng and i still believe in her talent in singing and song writing....

I liked Davey's song better than yeng's...goes to show that yeng already has a lot of fans....the girl is truly talented...her songs are topping the charts...i won't be surprised if she ends up the ultimate winner...if i were to judge i would choose the scholar who has improved the most since the classes began....yeng is a natural...she may have composed her songs even before PDA....what else is there for her to work on...but again this is the first PDA....ok na rin if she wins.

ano ba lagi pinatutugtog ng abs? d ba yung 'awit ng pangarap', yon kse ang theme song ng pda e. tapos yung isa 'pangarap lang', tugma rin sa concept ng pda so kaya siguro lagi rin pinatutugtog. nagkataon lang na c yeng ang pinakanta non. saka give credit naman to the voters, cguro naman d nila iboboto ang isang scholar dahil lang yung song nya lagi naririnig s pda, unless na lang if they like the scholar na in the first place.

Im an avid viewer of PDA. I just noticed that your basis (text voting) of the songwriting contest is no more reliable.
All the 3 credits went to yeng..no doubt she's talented, yes.
but for sure, u know that there are songs better than her composed by the other scholars...
I believe in your goal on raising the songwriting- that is to discover quality songs.
If you'll base it on text voting, that made ur goal no sense..
we can just say that it is based on popularity..

I'm a pinoy immigrant in the US and I have to say that watching PDA gives me this sense of pride seeing budding artists/talents on TV. However, I feel saddened that this show has turned into a popularity contest, more so, a money making scheme. The votes in itself do not mirror the sentiment of everyone. It should be a combination of expert opinions(judges) and the voting public and not just the voting public alone. Would u say it is the majority sentiment should i choose to invest 1 million dollar worth of votes for only 1 scholar?Would you say that whoever got that vote from me really deserves the investment I made? Certainly not.
I believe in recognizing talent, in rewarding people who deserve credit for their performance. I share your sentiments. I too feel that while it's a given that she's uber talented as a composer, the credit should go to someone else. It has become a popularity contest more than really acknowledging which composition was spot on in terms of form, melody and other important criterias. While it is important to include the public in the voting process, it's still best to let the experts do the selection process. I salute davey, panky and chad for their compositions.
It really scares me to think that the pinoy's penchant for popularity contests like this has failed to recognize the more important things, to recognize talent, to go beyond the looks and what they see in a reality show such as this. I hope that people vote not because they simply like one scholar, but based on who really deserves to be there, who will give the country more pride, who will really last long enough in such a grueling industry.

I don't think you're watching PDA with keen observation M. Bautista from US. You surely have short memory, its not all popularity because they were judged and given grades by competent artists as jurors for the past 14 weeks. Ang 4 na pinakamababa grade ang nagiging probitionary scholars. They even had midterm exams, at number 2 c yeng sa lahat ng scholars. Isa rin basihan na para masukat ang pagiging artist nila ang songwriting contest at hindi sinasadya na palaging si yeng ang pinapaboran ng karamihan. kung isang beses lang sasabihin nyo tsamba, pangalawang beses sasabihin nyo na swerte at pangatlong beses sasabihin nyo naman na kasi popular. In the first place, bakit ba sya naging popular...basta lang ba yon nangyari? Hindi di ba, yon ay dahil sa mga compositions nya at sa galing naipinapakita nya tuwing gala night. What i'm trying to say is that can't you accept that yeng's talents are her assets (aside from her good looks). Wag naman nating i-take against yeng ang God given talents nya dahil mas gusto nyo na bet nyo ang manalo...please be fair... I also have ny own favorites but I know in my heart that yeng deserves to be the PDA scholar grand winner!! GOOD LUCK YENG!!! Good luck din sa iba pang scholars.

don sa christmas songs, gusto ko yung kay Davey at Eman. don sa nakaraang Sabado na pawang original compositions, di ko masyadong gusto yung kay yeng but still, nanalo. hawak-kamay is a good composition and yung theme song ng pda which was composed by yeng,too pero yung pamasko at yung noong sabado, di ko alam kung gusto lang ng mga tao si yeng o gusto nila talaga yung mga kanta niya.
thank you sa mga comments nyo against yeng's compositions, but I think getting 57% of the total votes among 7 compositions was a great feat to be proud of...bale pinaghati-hatian nalang ng iba ang tira ni yeng. hi, just wanna comment regarding the judging system of pda. i do agree with one of the comments that it shouldn't be solely based on text voting. as what pda team previously said, they change the elimination system because they want that those who are left on pda will surely be the talented ones. but if that's the case, shouldn't it be better if the system would be 50% text votes and 50% jurors, anyways this is about dreaming right? i don't have anything against yeng, and i also don't have anything against pda (if i have, then i wouldn't be watching it anymore), but what i'm saying here is just a simple suggestion that would help the pda system better. yeng is great, actually i see one of my closest friends' identity in her... We should vote basing on talent not on looks alone kaya dapat si Yvan ang manalo because he's the most talented sa mga naiwan sa PDA.
i so totally agree with what was posted here. i mean yeng's previous song were really good (albeit they have almost the same melody), her last song was really not worth to be voted as 1st. the song was redundant. i mean, chad and panky's song are way better than yeng's... but, that's the way it is... yeng's fans are those who are so engrossed in casting their votes so naturally yeng will win.. chad and panky' fans (majority of whom belong to the "upper") are probably too busy to do to other "important" things than waste their time voting for PDA... hehe... nonetheless, the fact that yeng's songs are topbilled doesn't mean the song is good, it only implies that most of the PDA fans did not vote wisely... i mean in accordance with the true essence of PDA... pure talent, orginality and un-ordinary...
also, the post is right, there is a high probability that yeng will win, however, can you just imagine the "image" that will represent the pinoys via the 1st PDA winner... go figure... (not good at all..)

Yeah I agreed to what others say the final night must be 50% 50% for juror & text votes respectively to measure a real talent.I think that is more effective in the selection for PDA. As for the composition contest Yeng is undeniably popular 'coz of her song "Hawak Kamay" which I also like. Other than that the elements in her succeeding compositions don't display much melodic appeal. Actually they are hard to recall. Perhaps, she can try to experiment other musical styles rather than "altenative" all the time. The reason why she is more acceptable as the big winner is because of her break in the "Hawak Kamay". I guess this loses the goal of the show of finding real singing talent. Better if this will just turn our to be a song writing contest & then popularity contest. I do also agree that PDa has become a rock contest. No one even sing old time classics, senti, novelty, etc.

like mr bautista from usa, i too am an avid fan of PDA...i have to agree that at the first few episodes of the show, i did think that yeng is one of the prettiest girls there. however it is quite obvious that there are far more prettier girls there than her..i.e irish and michelle...
at first i thought she was pretty immature for her age (17 at the beginning of the show)thus my fondness of her lessened. i have to admit though that i started liking her again because of her incredible talent. she is by far so much better than rosita. if you are gonna correlate mariah carey to one of the PDA scholars i would say it would be Irish Fullerton not rosita or yeng, because rosita doesn't have the skill mariah carey does and the vast vocal ranges, not yeng because she created her own individuality. She cannot be compared to other foreign artists because she still has a lot to learn...rosita on the other hand, have attitude problems...pity that PDA didnt changed her the way it changed panky...
it is true that she went through a lot in a foreign land...but lets face it, whether her experiences are worse than the other scholars, it shouldnt be the reason for that type of attitude...because having that attitude and not changing, that is what i call immaturity.
the song that rosita "composed" last sat, gobsmacked me...it sounded really good that it took quite sometime for me to actually believe it was made by rosita...but guess what "nyoranians" out there, it wouldnt be that good if yeng didnt helped her find the melody for the song...yes yeng composed the melody...as far as composition goes, if your lyrics doesnt have a melody, and a melody created by the sole composer, i wouldnt call it your composition..she might as well settle as a poet than an artist...
i have to say that yvan is great...pity that he didnt get much votes, i wouldve loved it if he was one of the top 6...he's one of my bets...yeng,yvan,panky,jay-r,irish,

whether you like yeng's composition or not, it will not change how talented the girl is and how much people loves and supports her...so if you have nothing good to say about yeng...dont comment at all...
