These past days, our scholars have been busy practicing for their first gala night since they entered the academy. They will perform tonight at the Acdemy's concert hall which was announced to have a capacity of 500 people. They were tasked to perform the original compositions of their classmates - Yvan's Babalik Rin, RJ's Miss Kita Pag Tuesday, Richard's Sunshine and Yeng's Hawak-Kamay. They were grouped into 4 groups with the composers picking their groupmates. Here are some snippets of their practices courtesy of YouTube:
Let's us watch their first gala night tonight! My personal favorite is the Babalik Rin group. Hmmm, no! Strike that out. I like the Hawak-Kamay group more.
I like this song so much - more than RJ's Miss Kita Pag Tuesday (Sorry to RJ's fans). Friends, the lyrics of Hawak-Kamay...
My friend Aida Macaraeg (namesake of Vilma Santos’ character in the Lino Brocka movie) fell off her seat the other day while watching the initial telecast of the new ABS-CBN reality-TV show Dream Academy (the 24-hour version on Studio 23) early evening.
Reason: She saw a female "scholar" in a torried lips-to-lips kiss with a handsome foreigner-aspirant who was bidding goodbye because he didn’t qualify.
"How could that torrid kiss got aired?" Aida Macaraeg is asking Funfare.
A little sleuthing and Aida Macaraeg unearthed this: The two fell in love inside the Dream Academy. Obviously, they forgot that there were hidden cameras around, thus they got carried away. It was too late when the cameras were turned the other way.
"After that torrid kissing scene," recalled Aida Macaraeg, "the screen went blank for about 30 minutes and when the telecast resumed, the female ‘scholar’ was shown prim and proper, conducting a lecture before ‘students.’ The handsome foreigner was nowhere to be seen. Siguro napagsabihan na ng kung sino."
Oh no, do they also teach "sex education" inside the Dream Academy?
"Heaven forbid!" Aida Macaraeg said, making the sign of the cross.
From what I know, these could be Gemma and Rudi Celso. Headmaster Jim Paredes granted Gemma's request to see Rudi the other day before he leaves for Norway. Rudi did not make it to the Academy.
Did you see that episode? A scandal on the first week.. Hmmm, how exciting PDA could get?!
I'll try to get videocaps of the alleged kissing scene.

Due to insistent public demand, here's the lyrics of PDA's Scholar Rj Jimenez' original composition. Enjoy!
Oh oh oh yeeah..
Ganyan tayo almost everyday. Pero pag Tuesday… Namimiss kita… (break)
Owohuwo.. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.. I hate this day of Tuesday. I hate this day pag Tuesday. I hate this day of Tuesday. aha aha aha. (break)
Tuesday.!!!!!! Yehehehi yow!!! Aha! Mamimiss kita pag Tuesday!!!
It's really good song. Simple yet good. Thank you to yfc friend for posting these lyrics.

Last night, during the "Dream Night" of Pinoy Dream Academy at Cebu Capitol Grounds, they announced the remaining 16 scholars who will enter the academy. Here they are (click their names for their profiles and photos):
Here are my takes on the show last night and the 16 finalists:
It's really unfortunate that it rained in Cebu last night. But, just like what an old adage says, "When it rains, it pours." The talents poured last night? Yes, probably. However, the jitters of the contestants really came out. Mistakes poured. But, it should not be taken against them. They're there to learn. Let's just expect their progress in the days to come.
We have an unusual and interesting mix and match of finalists here. I was thinking that as the judges chose the 16 finalists, the talents were NOT of major bearing as they were auditioning thousands of Filipinos. Of course, it's a given that when you entered the top30, you are really talented. But as they picked the final 16, they could've considered maximizing viewership by "tweaking" some of the personalities inside the Academy. They might have thought of representing groups and communities here and abroad. Think of OFW Rosita Bareng and the Fil-Ams. Think of the contestants from Cagayan Valley to Cagayan de Oro. Think of Panky. I was guessing (but you can comment if I'm wrong) that when they chose the top 30, the next step was to bring their scores to zero, and pick the top 16 according to their personalities and "predicted appeal" to the viewers. There could be more musically superior individuals among those eliminated, but the images that they projected did not and will not stand out to those who qualifed. Oh well, this is a 4-month-long reality show, more than a talent search, so they really have to invest more on personalities to spice it up amd make it worth watching.
It's disappointing taht nobody from the "Musicthematics" section was qualified. Of all the sections, their performance is the most enjoyable and I must say that they performed like professionals unlike the other sections. Though I'm not really a big fan of Bossa Nova and Easy Listening but I love their unusual but fresh renditions of Eraserheads' classics. I was rooting for Minggay.
Nikki looked more stunning than Toni Gonzaga. The moment they entered the stage, the difference was noticeable. Nikki looked elegant with the bronzy make-up compared to the plain looks of Toni.
As I predicted, the Cebuanos will rule the Regional contestants. Go Panky and Jay-R!
And oh, I haven't heard the song "Baleleng" for a long time. Handrew sang it well.
